Economic Impact:
Taylor Swift, the famous singer-songwriter, has taken over the news andalmost every social media platform withher shocking new relationship withKansas City Chief’s tight end, TravisKelce. She has been spotted out andabout with Travis himself and hasattended a few Chiefs games.
The pop star is doing well on her ownwith her world tour that has beenexpected to yield up to $4.6 billion in theU.S. alone. This caused an economic boost in itself due to the revenue from the hotels and restaurants nearby.Concert attendees extended their stays and infused the local economies with vital tourism dollars.
Her impact on the economy only amplified when the news broke of her and Travis. Her appearance at the KansasCity Chiefs - Chicago Bears game took theinternet by storm. The game had the largest viewership of the NFL’s week 3 slate with 24.3 million average viewers.Additionally, Kelce’s merchandise sales reportedly skyrocketed nearly 400% in the following days of the game.

Many brands have taken notice of the attention the love birds have attracted from both the football world and the Swifties themselves. One of which wasHeinz, after a viral photo of Taylorstanding next to a plate of chicken stripswith a white and red sauce. The account described the white sauce as “seemingly ranch” and got dragged by fans. Heinz as well as Primal Kitchen, a condiment line, made “Seemingly Ranch” bottles whichsold out immediately. The demand for any product produced in relation to the couple instantly has such high demand thus increasing the brands’ total revenue.Whether these are shirts depicting clever captions such as “Go Taylor Swift’sBoyfriend”, jewelry with their faces on it, or even a condiment bottle, the fan bases behind these two are sure to give in.
Due to the high popularity of both Taylor and Travis, it is evident that the demand for related products will increase and this will eventually increase the price of these items. SeatGeek claimed that there was a 26% increase in average ticket resale price from $168 to $212. Considering that it has been less than two months, this is only the beginning of the economic impact these two will have on our society.
